Bless the Block Returns to Belmont Beach for Music, Family, and Community

Bless the Block is returning to Belmont Beach for another day of live music, free food, community resources, and neighborhood fellowship.

Organized by local host Rome Herbert, the recurring, family-friendly hip-hop concert series was created to bring residents together while activating one of Haughville’s most important public spaces.

Bless the Block Vol. III is scheduled for Saturday, August 1, 2026, beginning at 5:30 p.m. at Belmont Beach along the White River in Indianapolis.

More Than a Concert

Bless the Block is more than an outdoor music event. It is a neighborhood gathering built around culture, connection, and community investment.

Families can enjoy free performances from local hip-hop artists and neighborhood musicians while spending time together in a welcoming outdoor environment. The event also includes complimentary food, refreshing snow cones, and local resource vendors connecting residents with valuable programs, services, and opportunities.

By combining music, food, resources, and fellowship, Bless the Block creates a space where residents can celebrate their neighborhood while learning more about the people and organizations working to support it.

The History of the White River Riverfront

The White River has always been an important part of Indianapolis’ geography, growth, and development.

Long before highways, major roads, and modern development reshaped the city, the river provided transportation routes, natural resources, recreation, and gathering spaces. As Indianapolis grew, the White River became surrounded by railroads, factories, bridges, industrial properties, and residential neighborhoods.

For many years, parts of the riverfront were treated more like industrial spaces than public community assets. Pollution, restricted access, development, and disinvestment made it difficult for some residents to safely enjoy the river, especially in neighborhoods west of downtown.

Haughville and other westside communities have lived beside the White River for generations, but many residents did not always have welcoming or accessible places to gather along the water.

Today, community organizations, environmental advocates, neighborhood residents, artists, and city partners are working to reconnect Indianapolis communities with the riverfront. That work includes improving public access, supporting environmental restoration, creating recreational opportunities, and building spaces where people can gather safely.

Belmont Beach is part of that larger effort.

Belmont Beach and the Haughville Community

Belmont Beach is located along the White River in the Haughville neighborhood, an area with a long history tied to Indianapolis’ industrial growth, working-class families, and westside culture.

The space has been transformed into a community-centered riverfront destination through neighborhood involvement, partnerships, cleanups, cultural programming, and outdoor activities.

Belmont Beach represents what can happen when residents reclaim a public space and shape it around the needs of the neighborhood.

Instead of the riverfront being overlooked or disconnected from the people living nearby, Belmont Beach creates opportunities for families to enjoy yoga, music, nature, wellness programs, educational activities, and community celebrations.

The beach has become more than a place near the water. It is a gathering space where Haughville residents can connect with one another and celebrate their neighborhood.

Reclaiming Public Space Through Culture

Events like Bless the Block are important because they bring meaningful programming directly into the community.

Residents should not have to leave their neighborhood to experience quality concerts, wellness activities, family events, or cultural programming. Bless the Block brings those opportunities to Haughville while highlighting local artists and neighborhood leadership.

Holding the event at Belmont Beach also connects the celebration to the history of the riverfront.

For years, many urban riverfront spaces were shaped by industry and development rather than public recreation. Community-led events help change that relationship by making the river a place for music, healing, movement, family time, and positive neighborhood experiences.

Bless the Block helps residents see Belmont Beach not only as a physical location, but as a space that belongs to the community.

A Full Day of Community Programming

Belmont Beach will open earlier in the day for additional neighborhood programming.

A Community Yoga session is scheduled for 11 a.m., giving residents an opportunity to begin the day with movement, wellness, and relaxation before returning for the evening concert.

The combination of wellness activities and live entertainment reflects the larger purpose of Belmont Beach: creating a public space that supports the physical, social, environmental, and cultural health of the neighborhood.

Supporting Local Artists and Neighborhood Leadership

Bless the Block is hosted with funding and support from the Indy Arts Council and the City of Indianapolis.

That support helps keep the event free and accessible while creating opportunities for local performers, organizers, food providers, vendors, and community organizations.

Investing in neighborhood events also strengthens Indianapolis’ local arts community. It gives artists a platform to perform in front of residents from their own city while allowing families to experience live music in a familiar and welcoming environment.

The event also demonstrates the importance of supporting organizers like Rome Herbert, who are creating positive experiences that bring people together and activate neighborhood spaces.

Bless the Block continues to show what is possible when artists, neighborhood leaders, families, community organizations, and city partners come together with a shared purpose.

It is an opportunity to enjoy music and food, but more importantly, it is a celebration of Haughville, Indianapolis culture, the White River, and the residents working to reclaim and improve their community spaces.
